Raspberry Pi’s are extremely popular for lightweight and inexpensive computing solutions around the world. Raspberry Pi’s are being used for just about anything that you can think of that needs light computing power. Since vulnerability scanners have low resource requirements, using a Raspberry Pi makes a lot of sense.

Join me in this video as we walk through the required steps to turn your Raspberry Pi 4 into a Nessus vulnerability scanner. This is a fun and exciting project that will give you hands on experience with an actual vulnerability scanner.

1. Download Raspberry Pi Image Loader: https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/

2. Plug SD card into computer using memory card reader

3. Open Raspberry Pi Image Loader software, and load OS (Bake Your Pi)

4. Load SD card into Raspberry Pi, and then power on device

5. SSH into Raspberry Pi: ‘ssh pi@raspberrypi’

6. Update Raspberry Pi: ‘sudo apt update && sudo apt-get -uy dist-upgrade’

7. Reboot Raspberry Pi: ‘sudo reboot’

8. SSH into Raspberry Pi: ‘ssh pi@raspberrypi’

9. Download Nessus for Raspberry Pi: https://www.tenable.com/downloads/nessus?loginAttempted=true

10. On host computer, copy Nessus installer to Raspberry Pi: ‘scp Nessus-X.X.X-raspberrypios_armhf.deb pi@raspberrypi:/home/pi’

11. On Raspberry Pi, install Nessus: ‘sudo dpkg -i Nessus-X.X.X-raspberrypios_armhf.deb’

12. On Raspberry Pi, start nessusd daemon: ‘/bin/systemctl start nessusd.service’

13. On host computer, visit http://raspberrypi:8834 in web browser

14. Select “Nessus Essentials”

15. Activate Nessus

16. Create initial user account

17. Log into Nessus
